Formed through the merger of NuVox Communications and NewSouth Communications in mid-2004, NuVox has served business customers since 1997.
NewSouth Communications began operations in 1997 as South Carolina’s first competitive local exchange carrier. As a facilities-based provider, NewSouth deployed a network of Lucent voice and Cisco data switches to serve business customers across a nine-state Southeastern footprint. Prior to its merger with NuVox, the company had grown to serve over 18,000 customers and nearly 240,000 lines in service.
NuVox Communications was created through the merger of Greenville, SC’s TriVergent Communications and St. Louis-based Gabriel Communications in 2000. Like NewSouth, NuVox had a fully deployed network of Nortel voice switches and Cisco data switches serving its ten-state footprint throughout the Southeast and Midwest. Prior to its merger with NewSouth, NuVox Communications had grown to serve over 19,000 broadband customers and had more than 265,000 lines in service.
In May 2004, NuVox Communications and NewSouth Communications completed its merger of equals, forming a powerful integrated communications provider with an extensive reach and robust product set.
